Privacy Policy

Verella ("we", "the app") gives you a personalized food verdict when you scan a product barcode. This policy explains what data the app handles and what happens to it.
What we collect
- Account — your Apple ID sign-in (we receive a verified identifier and, if you share it, your email) or your email address if you sign in by code.
- Profile you provide — height, weight, age, sex, activity level, weight goal, diet patterns, allergens, and health conditions you select. Conditions and allergens are sensitive health information — you choose whether to add them; the app works without them.
- Scan history — barcodes you scan and the resulting verdicts are cached to your account so re-scans are instant.
- Crash reports — if the app crashes, a technical report (stack trace, device model, OS version) is sent to Sentry so we can fix it. Crash reports never include your profile, conditions, allergens, or scans.
What we do NOT collect
- No location, contacts, photos, or advertising identifiers.
- No camera images: barcode detection runs on your device; camera frames never leave it.
- No analytics or behavioral tracking SDKs, and no ads.
How your data is used
Your profile is used for exactly one thing: computing your food verdicts. Scoring runs on your device or our servers with your own account's access — verdicts are deterministic rules, not AI, and your health data is never used to train models, never sold, and never shared with advertisers.
Payments
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details. Our billing provider (RevenueCat) processes your purchase state under a pseudonymous account identifier — it never receives your profile or health information.
Where it lives
Data is stored with Supabase (Postgres, hosted infrastructure) with row-level security: your row is readable and writable only by your authenticated account. Product information comes from Open Food Facts / Open Beauty Facts / Open Products Facts (openfoodfacts.org, ODbL license); your barcode lookups are sent to their API without your identity attached beyond standard network metadata.
Deleting your data
Profile → Account → Delete my account and data permanently erases your account, profile (including conditions and allergens), and scan history. This is immediate and irreversible. You can also email feedback@verella.app to request deletion.
Medical disclaimer
Verella provides general informational guidance only — never medical advice. Always follow your care team.
